Ed Byers, CAE

My name is Ed Byers, small town guy turned city dweller. I am originally from the 1000 islands, and moved to Toronto in 2005 where I attended Ryerson University, earning my Bachelor of Commerce. I have worked for a number of organizations including Vancouver 2010, London 2012, TIFF, Steamwhistle, Special Olympics, The Real Property Association of Canada and now working with an amazing team at The Canadian Society of Association Executives (CSAE).

Why did you initially join CSAE?

I am currently the Director of Membership & Business Development where I get to work alongside a fantastic group of professionals that are dedicated to serving our 3000+ members.

I have participated on and off in CSAE activities over the years, and now being here and seeing first hand what a fantastic organization it is, I am excited to share all of the benefits that CSAE has to offer with our members and prospective members.

What does leadership mean to you and how do you lead others in your organization?

Leadership is part discipline and part intuition. Fostering growth and helping provide meaning to peoples’ work can lead to a more productive team and likely – a more enjoyable environment. It is important to always see the entire picture, but don’t underestimate your gut.. Also, always hire people that are smarter than you and don’t be afraid to be challenged!

What is your go-to work playlist?

I love my discover weekly playlist  – talk about targeting.. How do they know I will like these songs?
