Yowali Kabamba

My name is Yowali Kabamba and I am the Network Liaison at CSAE. Originally from Belgium, I have spent a great deal of time trying to learn more about the association and not-for-profit sector in Canada.

What do you get out of your membership with CSAE?

I have only recently joined CSAE, so I still have a lot to discover about the CSAE membership. However, being part of CSAE is a real opportunity for my professional development by connecting me to such a broad network of not-for-profit professionals.

How do you overcome the challenges you face at work?

I like to rely on my team whenever I face a challenge at work. We are a team with a very diverse set of skills, and I find that several brains working on a same problem will always come up with a solution. I also find that to sit on a challenge or problem overnight helps me come up with innovative solutions.

What’s one positive or innovative idea you are currently working on in your position?

My current position is a newly established role and I thus need to develop my role and responsibilities myself. It has been an interesting experience, and to be honest, the best approach for me has been to figure things out as I go.

What is one thing you want people to know about you?

I believe in myself – do you?

Where do you hope to see yourself in 5 years?

5 years seem a bit too ambitious, but I’d love to have my own association one day. I am truly passionate about not-for-profit work and I hope to be able to contribute to my community and region by making it a more just, social and economically stable environment for all.

What is your number one travel destination?

I have been incredibly lucky to have travelled a big part of the world already, but my current obsession is Hawaii.
